“This can’t happen to me…”
By Oana Lis, Psychologist
Have you ever said that to yourself!?
I, sure Yes…
From dark thoughts, to illnesses, to experienced and felt traumas, to betrayals of very close people, some even relatives, which I would never have expected… to situations in which life and destiny put me and I had to somehow I manage… there are many things that I experienced and did not anticipate.
And, is it better to think about all the possibilities, both good and less good, and be prepared or live in the present moment, without worrying about the future at all!?
At least, in our youth, most of us live like this, with the exuberance that we have everything, we can do everything, we have time, we can and know, we have the strength and energy to do it all, and maybe that is precisely the beauty of childhood and youth, that in general, don’t worry big man…
*Whatever has to happen, will happen whether we worry about it or not.*(Ana Monnar)
But life has its own unique way which is sometimes ironic and gives us lessons, which we have to go through and become a better version of ourselves.
There are no wrong ways. Just paths we didn’t know we were meant to walk. (Guy Kay)
It say that you don’t really understand something until you experience it… The events that happen many times in our lives and that can give us headaches are often unpredictable, from the moment we leave the house, in traffic, at work (especially if we work in a risky environment), we are also exposed to online dangers (scams at a distance of a click on a wrong link…), from relationships with some people who have the talent to pretend at first , until they gain our trust and then abuse it (because this can happen to anyone, it’s not about IQ but about the fact that we are social beings and we seek connection with others), there are also global events (such as the pandemic…) and those specific to each country, such as the political, economic, social situation, which influence our lives without wanting to.
And that’s the most important thing, knowing how to differentiate between things that belong to us and things that don’t belong to us, to our power. And about those that really don’t belong to us, let’s stop stressing.
*Fate rules one half of every man’s life, and character the other half.* (Alfred de Vigny)
For example, a sensitive topic is that, unfortunately, we are at the top of the list of cerebrovascular accidents in Romania… And yes, it can happen to anyone, and even to those who think about it in advance and want to prevent it, taking care of their health their. But, most of us are not taught to prevent diseases, to have a prevention system to follow, to do our tests on time and every year, even if we feel well at the time. Because each of us is responsible for our life, and maturity comes with independence, but it also comes with responsibilities, and in the first place is self-care, to be good for us and our loved ones, to have a quality of life good for many more years….
Of course, we must not become hypochondriacs, the best in everything is to reach a state of balance.
Let’s not think that a certain disease or condition can never happen to me or someone in our family. So, it can happen to anyone and if we are aware of this, we can discover any condition in time and treat it from the first moment, having a very high chance of treating it in time and being well. And above all, let’s do a daily exercise to be aware of our inner states, to see how we feel and if we feel that we are somehow in burnout, let’s put our foot on the brakes a little and rest more.
The same is true in anticipating and creating the good things we want in our lives. We must first believe that good things can happen to us, not only to others, to manifest them in our lives first through awareness and manifestation. Because if we don’t believe that they exist and can happen to us too, when they appear in our path, we won’t be able to recognize them and we won’t be able to recognize the good and suitable people for us and our growth.
*Glory is offered only to those who have always dreamed of it.* (Charles de Gaulle)
There are two ways to live your life. One, as if nothing has a miracle. The other, as if everything were a miracle. (Albert Einstein)
What separates winners from losers is how one responds to the vagaries of fate. (Donald Trump)
– So we could change the title to:
*This can happen to me too* and let’s be more cautious but also confident, because we ourselves must take care of ourselves first, love ourselves, put ourselves first, our well-being is our responsibility.
