Once belonging to Greater Romania, the Cadrilater boasts magnificent landscapes along the Black Sea coast, which are well-preserved by our Bulgarian neighbors. The most famous city is Balchik, where hundreds of thousands of Romanians visit the Queen Maria’s Castle with its impressive botanical garden.
Kranevo: A Surprising Discovery
Just 15 kilometers away from this highly popular tourist destination for Romanians lies Kranevo, a village belonging to Balchik that, between 1913 and 1940, was part of Romania, in the Caliacra county. It was once populated by Bulgarians, Greeks, Gagauz and Aromanians. Today, it is inhabited by Bulgarians, and many of our neighbors from south of the Danube come here because accommodation prices, food, and general shopping are much cheaper than in Balchik, Albena, Golden Sands, or other well-known resorts on the Bulgarian coast.
Therma Village – A 5-star Resort Straight out of Fairytales
Kranevo is a pleasant surprise for each tourist. We discover here a 5-star resort consisting of three hotels: Therma Eco, Therma Palace, and Therma Sport. It is a gem for those who choose to relax by the sea, offering excellent value for money, free guarded parking, and being open year-round, unlike other coastal hotels that operate only during the summer season. Therma Eco and Therma Palace have exceptional spa facilities and indoor spaces where you can spend time when the weather is unfavorable. It is becoming increasingly renowned for its thermal water pools and treatments.
Comfort and Beauty at Therma Eco
Guests staying at Therma Eco, which features themed rooms for children with Spiderman or Frozen themes, as well as beautiful standard rooms for adults, will find themselves just three minutes away from the hotel’s private beach, one of the most beautiful in Bulgaria. “We have invested a lot of money in leveling this beach; the sand is very fine, and the entry into the water is very smooth,” said Ion Bondar, the manager of Therma Village, who is Romanian and a recognized hospitality expert. He was appointed to coordinate the hotel’s activities, especially since the majority of tourists are Romanians.
Relaxation and Fun in an Aquatic Paradise
Nowhere else in Bulgaria will you see young children swimming without floats or water wings due to the gentle entry into the water. You won’t find seashells, stones, or algae in the water; the sea is so clean that you can see the sand at the bottom. There are sufficient sun loungers with umbrellas, which are free for hotel guests. Additionally, there is an all-inclusive beach bar, a playground for children on the sand, and a space for playing beach volleyball or football.
Those who get bored staying by the seaside can return to the hotel, where there are plenty of activities throughout the day. The main attraction for adults and especially for children is the aqua park pools. They have three water slides that can be enjoyed by both adults and children, and in the afternoon, the animators organize water polo games. Outside, there is a jacuzzi with thermal water, and next to the pool, there is a beautiful children’s playhouse, as well as the outdoor pool bar with the aqua park.
Oases of Relaxation and Delight within the Resort
There is an indoor pool in the hotel where swimming lessons can be arranged, a small thermal water pool, an aqua bike pool for an additional fee, a sauna, and a spa center where various treatments and massages are offered, including cryosauna. There is also a salt room, a fitness center, conference rooms, and the resort can even host weddings, as it has a large venue for such events. As a tip, you can have a dreamlike religious ceremony inside Queen Maria’s castle in Balchik, where the Stella Maris church is located by the sea, and then come to celebrate with your guests here.
An Unforgettable View and All-Inclusive Services
From the windows or balconies of the hotel, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Black Sea. The food is excellent, mainly prepared with organic products. There are soups for children, and the vegetables and fruits, especially cucumbers and tomatoes, truly taste like fresh farm produce. Therma Eco has three restaurants, two of which are all-inclusive. The first one is at the reception level, and the second one is on the second floor. Guests who have chosen the all-inclusive package can dine at both, but the reception will inform you which one you are assigned to.
A Variety of Accommodation Options and Facilities
In front of the Therma Eco hotel, there are luxury villas that can be rented at affordable prices for those seeking privacy but also all-inclusive services. Some villas have a private Jacuzzi on the terrace and a sea view, and they are located just 2 minutes away from the beach.
Therma Palace Hotel is a fabulous hotel located a 4-minute walk from Therma Eco and is known for its excellent spa services. I only visited it for an hour to see it, but I will definitely return to stay there. They have multiple thermal water pools, Jacuzzis, playgrounds for children, and volleyball and football courts that can be used free of charge by hotel guests. You can also find bowling, billiards, and other games to spend your free time, and the rooms are decorated in a way that makes you feel like you are living in a palace. It is only a 7-minute walk away, but for those who prefer, they can be transported for free by electric cars whose schedule is displayed at the reception.
Entertainment and Relaxation for Athletes
Inside the resort, there is also a hotel specifically designed for athletes, which opens only during events or training camps. The resort features a large professional ice rink, Ice Arena, an Olympic-sized pool, a synthetic football field, tennis courts, and a gym for athletes.
A Casino Experience in a Luxurious Setting
Just 10 minutes away from the hotel is the Golden Sands resort, where two large casinos are located, attracting tourists from Israel, in particular, for gambling. These are the casinos at the International Hotel, a 5-star establishment, and the Havana Casino & SPA Hotel, a 4-star establishment, both well-known in the area.
