The pyrotechnic effects and gorgeous girls were present at the event where the champions’ champagne was drunk shortly after bottles were cut with a sword.
Casino Life & Business Magazine was a Media Partner at first Grand Prix organized by the Romanian Drift Community.
Over 20 cars on more than 10,000 horse power competed in the first Grand Prix hosted by Romanian Drift Community. After the seven hour-race, where the best pilots in the country tried to impress the people who were hanging in clusters to see the controlled and sophisticated side-slips. Calin Ciortan was the first champion of the future series of local competition. He already has the largest portfolio among the Romanian pilots, as he had won the European title. The show became better when a DAF 18-wheeler came onto the stage and the pilot’s great skills drew big rounds of applause.
In the very early hours of the morning, the pilots reached the Vitan Auto Park that hosted the circuit. They revved the engines, flamed the tires. For an hour, they really warmed up for the real competition. The battles where the pilots chase one another from a very short distance, under a meter, and at a high speed, delighted much the fans, who stayed there for the entire day. Florentin Petre, Doinita Oancea, Alina Plugaru or Andrei Coman were among the stars to wish to feel the hard sensations being copilots during the Taxi Drift sessions, while Mihai Chitu and former international Daniel Prodan stayed on the side. Being used with the adrenalin, the famous Stoica brothers in the Superkombat circuit were thrilled after being copilots in a drift battle.
Augustin Viziru took his exam
For Augustin Viziru, it was a quite important day, since he took a first exam during Grand Prix to become a professional drift driver. The 34-year actor took the test for the first module, which consists in controlling the car around a fixed point; after 15 minutes of driving, the examiners congratulated him and gave him the first acknowledgment. The road to the official competitions is long, since Viziru still has to go for more modules. ‚I will definitely do it, it is a very spectacular sport’, said the actor. He prepared for the exam at the Drift Academy, recently opened by the Romanian Drift Community, trained by experienced Marius Mitrache. A module costs €100, which includes all the disposables, the car, tires and the theoretical side. In the end, you will be a master driving around a fixed point.
An 18-wheeler and a 15-year kid, the stars of the day
Between the qualifications and the quarter finals of the drift competition, a DAF 18-wheeler showed up that joined the race with a person in tow. The sensational moment was fully enjoyed by the tens of people around the improvised circuit. Currently, Romania does not have an internationally homologated circuit. The strong smell of burnt tires did not chase the spectators away, as they were curious to see the artistry of the drift pilots.
Only 15 years of age, Alin Gradinaru impressed everyone when he sat behind the wheel on the circuit, as he is one of the stars drivers for Taxi Drift. Another talented young man is Iulian Jumuga, 19, who can now boast about being among the best pilots in the country. ‚I started driving at 14, and my father let me drive a BMW’, he told us.
