Waitress Dana Castaneda makes history

An incredible thing happened this year during the World Series of Poker in Rio at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. For the first time in many years, a woman called Vanessa Selbst won an open tournament.

Dana Castaneda is a 31-year old waitress born in the western part of the United States. She married in 2007 and moved to California, close to Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. Passionate about gambling, she played poker, blackjack and others. This year, though, Dana Castaneda managed to go further and won a WSOP bracelet, which gave her a spot in the poker world champions list. During the 54th tournament, the American player defended 2,883 participants and the victory secured her a well-deserved bracelet.

She made USD454,287

Following her performance, Dana Castaneda won a sizeable price of 454,287 dollars. ‚I had no intention to enter this tournament, but after making a small profit at the Ladies Event, I decided to reinvest my money,’ she explained. Vanessa’s victory is much more valuable as she has been lately the only woman to win an open tournament. The first bracelet came in 2008 and the next one in 2012.

62 tournaments at WSOP 2013

The 44-th edition of the World Series of Poker took place in Nevada, at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, between May 29 and July 15.

There was a number of 62 tournaments, hard played, with very good money prizes and the renowned poker champion bracelets. Everything came to a peak with the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event, where the prize reaches USD8,359,531. The final is scheduled for November.
