The first race of 2016, the first big result for Daniel Onoriu and CASINO LIFE & BUSINESS MAGAZINE
Between April 22nd and 24th, Serres (Greece) was the host of the first stage of The 2016 Speed Motorcycling Championship. At the start, were present riders from Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Serbia, Greece and Macedonia, this stage being considered as the third in the East European Speed Motorcycling Championship.
During the first two days the weather was good to those who came to race on the circuit in Greece, but on Sunday, the day of the race, the rain made its presence felt and watered the circuit, thus, in all categories it was declared a “ wet race. “
The novelty of championship came from the fact that one of the riders devoted to motoring, Daniel Onoriu, switched to the most difficult category in Moto Championship – Superbike 1000. For many years, he had been awarded records on four wheels, and became multiple national champion at the speed hill climb, last year.
The pilot from Bucharest managed a unique performance – to gain the title of national champion in class “Beginners 1000”.
„The race for the top class was spectacular but without twists: even though he began the race from position 13 at the start, Daniel Onoriu succeeded to advance to the 6th position and form a leading platoon alongside more experienced riders such as Cosmin Costescu and Catalin Cazacu The three pilots were able to finish the race in the same second, after various teasing and team strategies. Here’s what Cosmin Costescu said: “I was forced by a rider behind me who was coming strong. At first, I saw a mtorcycle attacking for a few moments and I wondered who might be from the riders I knew were more combative.
Thinking about the experience he has on the road and the kilometres he rided, I thought it might be Daniel Onoriu. During one of the attacks (when he surpassed me) I saw it was him. From that moment on, I started to double the paths, meaning to close Catalin’s road, for him to be unable to surpass me and Catalin, by holding close to Catalin, that way he couldn’t have the space to enter between us”.”
At the end, Daniel Onoriu came into a well deserved 3rd place, during his first season of participation in higher class Superbike Championship.
“I started from the 13th position and climbed during the first round on the 6th position, behind the leading platoon formed by Costescu and Cazacu. “I managed to surpass them, but I lost the chance of a victory in a split second: at one point I realized that in front of me was just Catalin Cazacu, multiple national champion, whom I respect very much. Me being absolute national champion in another sport, I have a great respect for Catalin’s record. At the moment, I did not know how to react, try to surpass him or not. It was that fraction of a second that allowed those from Typhoon to regroup and launch that team strategy that kept me behind them until the end. It was a very nice race with a good result for my record which I didn’t t expect so soon. It motivates me for next stages and hopefully, that together with my partners, we will have a season without incidents and with better results. The next stage of Motorcycling Speed National Championship will take place on the circuit from Adancata, on June 25th and 26th.
