Casino magnate turned into research investor

The businessman, owner of Wynn Resorts Ltd., stated that he would donate the barely credible amount to the University of Iowa, for a center that has been assigned to research the ophthalmologic affections.

The University of Iowa will name the Institute after Steve Wynn, the mega-billionaire in the casino industry. Thus, the institution will be called Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research. The donation is an additional proof of the friendship established between Wynn and Ed Stone, Professor in Ophthalmology at the University above, who will be in charge with managing the Institute.

He suffers from pigment retinitis

Steve Wynn, 71, has had a long interest in this field. He suffers from pigment retinitis, a hereditary disease that will lead to losing vision. The 25-million donation represents one of the most substantial gifts ever made in the States to a University. ‚Steve Wynn is an exceptional human being. He is a real visionary, who went to Las Vegas and created beauty,’ said Professor Ed Stone. ‚As someone who knows what a lost vision means, I will do as much as humanly possible to help those in the same boat with me,’ declared the American magnate.

Steve Wynn’s fortune was estimated at USD2.5 billions in 2012.
