Dan Alexandru Ghiță about the gambling industry in 2023 and 2024: In Romania, the year 2023 was a year with many challenges for the gambling industry.
The specific dynamics in which the industry finds itself, correlated with a pre-election year, caused it to be faced with major changes, as they have never been before.
The legislative changes have fundamentally impacted the business environment, companies having to change their strategy and adapt to the new conditions.
The year 2024 will be a year when things will reset, we will see major changes, with many acquisitions or mergers, many companies will have a proactive approach to be able to reconfirm, or why not, increase their share market in the given context.
From an operational point of view, experience in the industry and the advantages of implementing technological innovations can make the difference.
The Government of Romania, through the National Gambling Office , has a decisive role in implementing and correctly applying the legislation, the authority must ‘watch’ to ensure a ‘clean’ market, thus avoiding possible situations of illegality that may appear arround the adaptation process of companies to the new legislation.
In this way, the business environment is protected from possible situations of unfair competition, the stability and the controlled environment leading to a good tax collection from the state authorities and automatically an increased protection of society.
The dialogue with the industry is very important, this is the only way to identify situations that can be improved and/or corrected from a legislative or perception point of view, the industry still being in a taboo subject area, many untruths being promoted.
As I said before, the legislation is not perfect and due to the dynamics of the industry, things are constantly changing, that’s why the dialogue with the involved factors is essential.
