The FBI has arrest 14 members of an illegal sports betting operation in California this week.

In the indictment unsealed on Wednesday arrests were made in California, Los Angeles and San Diego in relation the company call Macho Sports.

It has also been reported one of the main owners of the company was arrested in Norway.

Macho Sports which traded online and through telephone betting out of Lima in Peru, the indictment said that Jan Harald Portocarrero and Erik Portocarrero ran the business which took bets mostly from Californian gamblers.

According to reports the FBI have been investigating the company for over two years, with some agents working undercover and found multiple cases of violence and threats against gamblers who were unable to pay their debts.

U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy said that billions of dollars are being made outside the law now that technology has made illegal gambling more accessible.
