Two years ago, poker was being officially acknowledged as a ‚mind sport’. This is the reason why it will be included in the next World Mind Sport Games tournament, scheduled to take place concurrently with the Olympic Games in London.
Poker will be played at the Olympics in London this year. This comes after having been formally confirmed as a ‚mind sport’ two years ago, along with chess, bridge and GO. The mind games will be admitted in a special program, which includes poker. Thus, poker will be played during the next edition of the World Mind Sports Games (WMSG), planned to be present in London this year, for the Olympic Games. The first WMSG tournament took place in Beijing, China, following the 2008 Olympic Games – the numbers then: 2,763 players from 143 countries.
‚It is an enormous success that poker has been finally confirmed – an act of justice – as a mind sport. It is beyond comparison as opposed to the other casino games. They are played against the house or the casino, while in poker human enemies are confronting. Moreover, it all comes down to strategy, brain power – no match to be found for that. Poker involves experience, intuition, tactics, dissimulation, professionalism and the list goes on’, said in an interview Anthony Holden, the President of the Poker Association.
