Earlier this month Phil Hellmuth earned his record extending 13th World Series bracelet.
But that isn’t enough for the “Poker Brat”, who recently outlined his intent on winning 24 bracelets before his career comes to an end.
This latest declaration, reported on the PokerListings website, is certainly true to character.
“There’s a lot of work left to be done in my life,” he said. “I need to win 24 bracelets, the $50k Players Championship and the $25,000 WPT World Championship.”
The modern game has changed that likelihood immensely.
Many WSOP events now feature hundreds if not thousands of players rather than the smaller, more exclusive fields of a decade or two ago.
That’s not all that has changed.
With more players in the game the skill level required to succeed has also increased.
And yet Phil Hellmuth continues to win bracelets.
A 12th in the RAZZ event this summer (his first non-hold’em bracelet), and a 13th in the WSOP Europe main event, arguably one of the most prestigious tournaments held in Europe.
It may be foolish to disagree with the poker brat after all.
