Paul Runcan finished 2nd at European Poker Tour Prague Main Event
Paul Runcan finished in 2nd place at European Poker Tour Prague Main Event and a €900,000 prize at the event held in December 2024.
When heads-up play began with Pedro Marques, Runcan had an almost five-to-one chip advantage over his Portuguese opponent. That lead expanded to eight to one within a few hands, and Runcan was on his way to the title. Marques didn’t go down without a fight, however, and won a full double-up when he bet third pair and was called by Runcan with an ace.
Then the stacks nearly evened out, and a deal was struck. Both players agreed to €900,000 each, leaving €63,450 and the EPT trophy for the winner. As soon as the deal was done, everything went in Marques’ favor.
For Paul Runcan it was by far the biggest win of his career, far surpassing the €67,850 he won just a few months earlier at the WSOP Europe Colossus, where he finished in fourth place.
Also at the European Poker Tour Prague Main Event, Dan Chișu, a director and poker player, managed to finish in 9th position and a prize of €106,050.
