Bath & North East Somerset Council has given a licence for a small casino to Global Gaming Ventures Ltd, the company were awarded the licence by the Council’s Licensing Committee for their proposals at the former Sawclose Clinic and Gala Bingo Hall in the tourist city of Bath.

The casino operator is Groupe Partouche, Europe’s largest casino company.

Around 80 full time Casino jobs and 120 construction jobs will be created by the new development

One of the parts of the agreement will be that the company make a £250,000 one-off payment to the Council and a minimum £15,000 per month once the Casino opens.

Other parts of the agreement include; local suppliers will be given the first opportunities to provide services to the Casino, the potential construction of a 4 star boutique hotel with a minimum of 65 rooms, subject to planning permission.

Councillor Nathan Hartley Deputy Leader of Council, said, “This is a positive step forward towards developing one of the key sites in Bath city centre”.

The operator has pledged to put safeguards in place, including measures to protect casino visitors, from gambling to excess.

Highly qualified door staff and CCTV will help provide a safe environment both in and around the casino, adding to the already busy but friendly atmosphere in the entertainment area of Saw Close.

The proposed timescale for the Casino is for it to be up-and-running by the end of 2014.
