24-year-old Maryland poker professional, Greg Merson has won the World Series of Poker main event, lasting roughly 12 hours in a marathon card session to push past his last opponents for the $8.53 million title early Wednesday.
In the heads up he pushed past Jesse Sylvia.
The tournament began in July with 6,598 players and was chopped down to nine through seven sessions spread over 11 days.
The main event started Monday night.
