DraftKings hired Michael Jordan as a special advisor to the company’s board of directors providing guidance and strategic advice on key business initiatives.
Michael Jordan has taken an equity interest in the operator in exchange for “providing guidance and strategic advice on key business initiatives.”
Michael Jordan’s status as special advisor is effective immediately, meaning he is free to advise on “strategic and creative input.”
DraftKings CEO Jason Robins, who mentioned Jordan in his upcoming US CEO Special interview with Gaming America, said: “Michael Jordan is among the most important figures in sports and culture, who forever redefined the modern athlete and entrepreneur.
“The strategic counsel and business acumen Michael brings to our board is invaluable, and I am excited to have him join our team.”
DraftKings is an American daily fantasy sports contest and sports betting operator. The company allows users to enter daily and weekly fantasy sports–related contests and win money based on individual player performances in five major American sports (MLB, the NHL, the NFL, the NBA and the PGA), Premier League and UEFA Champions League soccer, NASCAR auto racing, Canadian Football League, the XFL, mixed martial arts (MMA) and Tennis.
As of April 2016, the majority of U.S. states consider fantasy sports (including daily fantasy sports) a game of skill and not gambling.
