“The Snooker Romanian Federation (FRS) was set up in 2007. It is, compared to similar federations, a young federation. The FRS leadership has undertaken to organize three European Championships and a World Championship in these years, given that the organizing country has the right to enroll more participants in the competition. As we know in the sport, it is very important for the competitors to participate in as many international or European competitions as possible. In spite of organizational efforts, FRS has decided to offer Romanian participants as much chance as possible to face high-performance players. On the other hand, those who participated in the previous editions had only words of appreciation for the chance to visit Bucharest and enjoy traditional local hospitality. We look forward to all the competitors and their attendants as well as the referees who will watch the event, “said Francis Tobă, the president of the Romanian Snooker Federation.

Snooker is one of the three disciplines in the billiard family, along with pool and carom and celebrates this year 140 years since its appearance. It originates in the English pool, which appeared more than 300 years ago. Snooker is basically the “grandchild” of the English pool, appearing in 1875 as a result of an extension of the three white, yellow and red balls that were the object of English billiards. So, Sir Chamberlain added another 14 red balls and five more colored to the yellow one, thus reaching the current form called snooker.

The European Billiard and Snooker Association (EBSA) was established more than 30 years ago and currently has 42 European member countries. Since 1988, EBSA has been organizing the first European amateur snooker tournament.

“We will try to promote the tourism potential of Bucharest and its surroundings. Last years, the participants in the double European Championship and World Championship under 21 organized in Bucharest gave us a very good feed-back on the Romanian Capital, so we decided that this year we would propose more tourist options to the participants, but also to the attendants, referees and supporters coming from all over Europe. We are glad that both Bucharest and its surroundings are becoming increasingly popular for international events. In addition, we are honored to have contributed to this promotion and development of the Capital, “said Raluca Repanovici, managing partner of Innovation Travel & Events.
