Casino Constanta was partially discovered after the scaffolding on the upper facade was taken down, following the completion of the works.
As we announced last year, the works for the rehabilitation of the Casino in Constanța started at the beginning of April 2020. On April 3, 2020, the City Hall of Constanța issued the construction permit for the consolidation and restoration of the Casino in Constanța.

The project, with funding of almost 90 million lei provided by the Ministry of Development, aims to consolidate and rehabilitate the Casino in Constanta. Currently, the work are 57% complete.
The works on the northern facade of the Casino in Constanta have been completed, and the protective elements have been removed to expose the building, informs a press release from the Ministry of Development.

“The unveiling of the Constanta Casino, a unique and representative building of Romania, whose rehabilitation is a priority for the Government, was a unique moment. The rehabilitation works completed so far underline the monumentality of this superb building built in the Art Nouveau style,” said the Minister of Development, Cseke Attila.

According to the ministry, during the two years of works, the works on the northern facade of the building and the ram towers were completed. The project to modernize the Casino in Constanta has a value of approximately 18 million euros, and aims at the following objectives:
● consolidation for safekeeping;
● restoration of installations, modernization of existing ones and creation of new installations according to the norms in force;
● rehabilitation of the support wall, defense against waves;
● restoration of the metal balustrade according to the original solution and the parapet in Art Nouveau style;
● vertical systematization and rainwater collection systems with rainwater drainage and defrosting systems;
● exterior and interior sound systems;
● interior and exterior architectural lighting.

The renovation began in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and the Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, Cseke Attila hoped that this representative building would be handed over in all its splendor in 2022. Now the rehabilitation works of the Constanța Casino are in full swing and waiting to be completed during 2024. Although it was supposed to be ready in half of this year, the problems encountered on the following rehabilitations have delayed the completion of the works.

The Casino of Constanta was designed by the architect Daniel Renard, in the Art Nouveau style. The act of birth of the emblematic building is a contract concluded on July 23, 1903 by the liberal mayor Cristea Georgescu with the architect Daniel Renard for the design of the new Casino. The political color of the administration changes quite a bit in the early 20th century. Chosen by the liberals to build this building, Renard was removed when the conservatives came to power, in 1905. The design of the Casino was then handled by the architect Petre Antonescu. In his view, the casino had a theater role. But the Liberals’ return to power between 1907 and 1908 led Renard to reimpose his Art Nouveau style. The superb building was inaugurated on August 15, 1910, in the presence of Prince Ferdinand.
