A new Romanian performance
Benjamin Adegbuyi became the third Romanian to qualify at the Superkombat Final Elimination on November 10, after winning the four-pyramid at Superkombat World Grand Prix Varna. His performance is so much sensational considering that he started on this road a year ago.
This sportsman of a Nigerian background surprisingly outdid the Croatian Mladen Brestovac, the one who had beaten Sebastian Ciobanu, Mihăită Golescu or Coco Rus. After putting the adversary to the floor in the second round with a hook, Adegbuyi won by unanimous decision and in the final KO-ed the local favorite, Kostadin Kostov during the first round.
Discovered at the seaside
Aged 27, Adegbuyi kicked off his career only a year ago, after being spotted at a preselection gala in Constanta. ‚It is a performance nobody would expect, as Benny had his first match last March. He grew up very much, and this shows the high level of this sport in Romania. So far, the Dutch people had been the leaders but Romania is strongly coming on now,’ declared the promoter Eduard Irimia. ‚I am extremely happy. This is the best performance in the career and my thoughts are going towards the Final Elimination. I am truly thankful to the people who trusted in me’, Adegbuyi said. His coach, Alin Panaite, went on,’Benny needs almost a year to improve physically and technically – then, you will see him in an extraordinary shape. Next month we start training for the Superkombat Final Elimination.’
Andrei Stoica avenged his brother
Andrei Stoica has a spectacular victory in Varna, defeating the Turkish Hasan Aksoy by TKO in the first round – after the latter had been counted three times. Quite interesting that last year Aksoy defeated Andrei’s brother, Bogdan, by TKP in the second round. ‚I finally got to avenge my brother! I was very motivated, and from now on you will see a better Andrei’, said the one nicknamed Mr KO.
An unsurpassable advisor
During the first match as a county advisor, Catalin Morosanu recorded his tenth victory in a row after ‚killing’ Rick Cheek with tens of low kicks – an American who is 15 kilos heavier and 13 centimetres taller. In the middled of the second round, the referee decided to stop the match, as the American had been counted four times in less than five minutes.
A Romanian and a great future
Raul Cătinaş had also an easy victory against the veteran Domagoj Ostojic, defeating him by TKO in the first round – the one who was very close to KO Badr Hari. ‚In two years the most, Raul can become the best in the world. No joking! In my 45 years of career never saw a white guy kick so strongly with his fist, like a black man. He is unique!, declared the famous Thom Harinck, his coach.
Defeated by a legend
The only Romanian being defeated was Corneliu ‚Coco’ Rus, but he had to fight an adversary of the highest level, the legendary Alexey Ignashov. The fighter from Belarus won by unanimous decision, only because he put down the sportsman from Lugoj in the second round.
New champion of the heavies
Ismael Londt, in Surinam, is the new Superkombat world champion in the heavy category after winning by split decision against French Freddy Kemayo, when two of the judges saw him a winner at the end of three spectacular rounds.
The fourth Superkombat World Grand Prix will take place on October 20 and Superkombat Final Elimination will be scheduled for November 10. The great final Superkombat, which will have the winner receive a Mitsubishi Pajero, will be on December 8.
