Following the annual general meeting of Amaya it has been announced that the companies new brand name will be The Stars Group Inc.
Earlier this year Chief Executive Rafi Ashkenazi said that the company would change its name but did not indicate what the new name would be, however following the approval of shareholders at the AGM Amaya will change the name by end of August.
It’s believed the name change is best to reflect the companies core business which is of course PokerStars and also distance itself from former boss and founder of Amaya David Baazov who is awaiting trial in Canada on insider trading charges.
Also announced at the companies AGM was that the online giant would move its main core headquarters from Montreal to Toronto where it already has 300 staff working there, however just a small finance team will remain in Motreal for the time being.
Finally on the Amaya news was that also mentioned away from the AGM by CEO Rafi Ashkenazi is that the company is very interested in opening up their business to the Indian market that has 1.3 billion residents. Ashkenazi said that PokerStars would work with a currently licensed partner there with COO Guy Templar working on the deal for Amaya.
