About Herculane
Documentarily attested from the year 153, Herculane is the oldest spa resort in Romania and one of the oldest resorts in Europe. Discovered by the Romans in the wars of expansion, it became famous throughout the empire, quickly becoming a place of healing for the imperial families of Rome and later for the crowned heads of Europe.
Today, Herculane is a place that preserves a lot of legends, being a place full of history and blessed with unique natural factors in the country, thanks to the Mediterranean climate, atypical for Romania. This climate, although at a low altitude, creates a negative ionization of the air comparable to that of the Swiss Alps, but also a unique fauna and flora, which create spectacular landscapes.
Herculane thermal waters
Herculane is known for its healing waters, which have spread its fame throughout the continent. Currently, in the area of the resort, 16 springs with thermo-mineral water are known, strung along the Cerna. A characteristic of mineral waters is that they contain hydrogen sulphide in high concentration (up to 60 mg/l). The water in Herculaneum contains a wide variety of minerals, and from the point of view of chemical composition, the waters are chlorosodic, calcium, saline, sulphurous, with a low degree of radioactivity, with varying temperatures, reaching up to 62 degrees Celsius.
Effective natural treatments
The composition of the waters of Herculane addresses a wide range of conditions, from diseases of the locomotor system, rheumatism, degenerative conditions or post-traumatic conditions to diseases of the nervous system, neurological or associated diseases such as convalescent states.
The minerals in the water of the Herculane thermal baths, together with the high silica content, can smooth the skin and hydrate it. Sulfur, in particular, can reduce problems such as psoriasis, eczema and irritation.
What disease do the waters of Baile Herculane treat?
A main category of diseases treated with mineral waters in Herculane is osteo-articular rheumatic diseases. This includes inflammatory or degenerative rheumatism, as well as post-traumatic conditions, i.e. conditions after joint operations or fractures.
Today, modern complementary therapies are added to the mineral waters, in the health centers of the resort, such as Herculum Spa, within the Bacolux Afrodita Resort & Spa or Diviana Spa within the Bacolux Diana Resort, treatments under medical supervision, in physiotherapy and massage rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art electrotherapy equipment.
