The road to recovery for Macau as March GGR hits MOP$8.31 billion, with 58.0% higher year-on-year but more importantly 13.6% higher than February.
Macau’s recovery gained some long-awaited momentum in March with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reporting gross gaming revenue of MOP$8.31 billion (US$1.04 billion) – the highest monthly total since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last January.
The March GGR figure was 58.0% higher year-on-year but more importantly 13.6% higher than February – which saw GGR of MOP$7.31 billion (US$914.5 million) – driven by increasing visitation from mainland China as consumer confidence grows.
Macau last week recorded its highest single day visitor tally in over a year with of 32,647 arrivals on Friday 26 March, and also its highest weekly visitor tally with 189,843 arrivals between Saturday 20 and Friday 26 March.
For the first three months of 2021 combined, Macau’s GGR stands at MOP$23.64 billion (US$2.95 billion), down 22.5% year-on-year, being clearly the road to recovery.
Macau’s total GGR in 2020 was MOP$60.44 billion (US$7.56 billion), down 79.3% year-on-year.
