The new Mohegan Sun Casino officially opened its 60,000 sq. ft of gaming to the Las Vegas public and gamblers on Thursday last week.
Celebrities, invited guests, locals and visitors were at the opening ceremony at the Virgin Hotels venue to see the door ceremonially unlocked. Mohegan Gaming interim CEO Ray Pineault and Mohegan Tribal Councillors led the formal event.
The new Mohegan Sun Casino features 650 slots and 50 tables. It employs its own Momentum Loyalty Program, awarding Momentum Dollars to spend on dining, shopping hotel stays, spa treatments and other partner benefits.
The Mohegan Tribe gained federal recognition as a sovereign nation on March 7, 1994.
Federal recognition has given the Mohegan Tribe the opportunity to conduct itself as a sovereign nation. To get there, the Tribe had to meet strict criteria, but was able to meet these high standards of proof and answer questions about why the Tribe would take the trouble.
