The National Convention of the American Republican Party took place in Tampa, Florida – and it was a ground for poker-related debates.
The electoral programme of the American Republicans also includes the intention to forbid any type of online betting. ‚Millions of Americans suffer from compulsive gambling disorder and this brings a very harmful effect on their families. We support the banning of the internet betting and we request from the Department of Justice to amend again the Wire Act interpretation, which opens the gates to the online gambling. Internet should be a safe place for our children…’ says the document released by the Republicans. Mitt Romney, the candidate elect from the Republican Party to become USA President, also expresses his position against the online games. ‚The social costs are too high and, plus, it encourages addiction,’ stated the politician.
His words were harshly criticised as he himself had suggested a USD 10,000 bet to Rick Perry during a televised debate at the party convention of last year.
