Online gambling generated 2.3 billion euros in 2019 in Sweden and betting on ships contributed more than 1.3 billion euros during the entire year.
The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has revealed that licensed land-based and online gaming operators generated an impressive turnover of 2.3 billion euros in the entire year of 2019, Focus Gaming News reports.
The preliminary figures relate to licensed companies and is based on information from the Swedish Tax Agency.
Online gaming and gambling on ships contributed the most, generating 1.3 billion euros turnover during the year while lottery and vending machines contributed 557 million euros.
These figures involve licensed operators, but Spelinspektionen also warned about the impact of unlicensed companies.
The Swedish authority explained that it has no official information, but works around analysts estimates.
According to H2 Gambling Capital, revenues from Swedish players gambling off-shore was between 170 million euros and 208 million euros.
