How did you become a dealer?
I am a student and I need money just like all the students. But I can’t afford a full-time job, however I can make time for a festival. It’s a lot of werk these days, but what happens is interesting and keeps me active.
Do you like poker?
How could I not like poker? Who doesn’t like poker doesn’ become a dealer, because we sometimes he might get bored, or he would start making mistakes. In addition, players feel much better with a dealer that seems to be playing ….. I play online poker and in homegames.
Do you learn poker from the ones from the festival?
Oh, yes! The game is seen better from the outside. I am realising easily when players are preparing to open, to raise, to fold, to call – I started anticipating their decisions, with help from my experience and reflexes. I saw hundreds of times the same gestures and I know what follows them. I give you a very simple example, that can be observed by everybody: when a player swings between call or fold and tails his cards again, he will fold in 99% of the cases.
Do you have a favorite player with whom you like to play?
From the ones that come to PokerFest, I don’t prefer a certain player, all of them are nice. But I like all of those that respect my work. The ones that throw their hand closer to me so I don’t have to lie after it, the ones who do not bet throwing coins throughout tha table, the ones that pay attention to the game, the ones who always put their ants so I don’t have to ask them every time. I like these ones and I support them, because I prefer to see people with common sense winning.
Is it hard to be a dealer?
It’s not easy, it’s a job where you have to pay attention every second. You are guilty of any error while the game is on. For the players, I’m not just the dealer, the man that only deals the cards. I am the referee of the game, I decide who made a mistake and if he should be penalised. For example, if I am a “good boy” and I give the cards to someone that isn’t at the table yet, I am doing him a favour. However, I am doing an injustice to the other players. That’s the moment when you have to rely on your intuition: How far was he to the seat? How relaxed is the game? Are the other players going to have something to say? It’s really emparassing having to make a decision and then having to change it or having it contradicted by the floor. So it’s a lot of responsibility, not only skill.
Are you playing or have you ever played at Pokerfest?
No, I havent’t have when, but i will make it. I can’t wait to be on the other part of the table. There are important poker players which started by being dealers and after they have learnt the game. So why not me?
Will you try at Eureka in May?
Nooo! There I want to participate as a dealer. It will really count in the future for my CV of poker dealer. I will be able to say that I was making the deals at Eureka – who would refuse me than?
