Danish gambling regulator

Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, announced changes which will include a relaxation of conditions for testing labs.

The Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, has opened a consultation on proposed changes to its certification requirements that it hopes to implement in 2022.

The proposed changes include a requirement for testing companies to use ISO 17025 rather than ISO 17020 to accredit their competence. ISO certification will no longer be needed for verification penetration testing, which checks for vulnerabilities in a product.

Testing companies will no longer need to have three years of experience, however requirements on staff experience will remain the same. Spillemyndigheden said this was because it had learned that the people involved in testing companies are more important than how long the company has been in existence.

As for testing standards, the three-second rule that ensures each event in a game takes at least three seconds will be moved from inspection requirements to testing requirements.

In the regulator’s general inspection standards, online bingo has been moved to the peer-by-peer game section, clarifying that this can be offered by online casino licensees.

Meanwhile, Spillemyndigheden has removed the requirement for gaming systems to store customers’ self-exclusion statuses after determining that this information should not be kept any longer than necessary.

Last month, Spillemyndigheden reported that channelisation to licensed gaming in Denmark reached a record 90 per cent in 2020, up from 88 per cent in 2019 and 69 per cent when the Danish gaming market was opened up in 2012.

The regulator recently warned that unlicensed providers were contacting Danish customers offering membership to a “lottery subscription club“.

The so-called lottery subscription offered membership to a club in which groups of people buy tickets for international lotteries and share the winnings.
