BEGE & EEGS – Bulgaria has become a technological hub for companies in the gambling industry

BEGE 2023 was opened in the presence of more than 6,000 visitors from 65 countries

Casino Life & Business Magazine was also present this year in Sofia. Our magazine is the media partner of these important events in Bulgaria, since the first edition of BEGE.

Bulgaria is emerging as a technological hub of the gaming industry, said Angel Iribozov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AGIB, at the opening of BEGE 2023. “Companies from all over the world are choosing to invest in this country and move their offices here. Currently, more than 30 foreign companies are setting up their streaming, technical support and customer service studios in Sofia and Plovdiv. These brands are creating new jobs,” he added.

BEGE 2023 started with an official ceremony attended by the Director of the Supervision Directorate of Gaming and Gaming Activities of the National Revenue Agency, Alexander Popov, and Dr. Boyko Takov, Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Small Businesses and Middle.

Alexander Popov stated: “The invitation to be here shows that we, as a regulatory body, have managed to build mutual trust and a good partnership. The exhibition introduces standards in the sector and every year its image raises the profile of the gambling industry”.

The exhibition took place on November 22-23 at the Inter Expo Center Sofia. This year, there were exhibitors from 65 countries on three continents who came together to present trends and innovative solutions in the industry. This year’s theme was Proximity. Where Progress Takes Root. BEGE is a large annual gathering of industry professionals from Europe – manufacturers and suppliers, land-based and online operators, affiliates, payment service providers, media and associations. The organizer of the event is Association of the Gaming Industry in Bulgaria (AIIB).

Before the ceremony, an official press conference was held in the presence of industry experts, including Angel Iribozov (Bulgaria), Peter Remmers (Netherlands), Secretary General of the European Association for the Study of Gambling, Dr. Joerg Hofmann (Germany), Senior Partner at law firm Melchers, Gemma Boore (UK), Harris Hagan and Alexis Wicen (Malta), Co-founder and CEO of Unibo. Highlights from their statements included current data on the Bulgarian and global gambling industry, Bulgaria’s transformation into a technology hub for the gambling sector, gambling advertising under regulatory flux, as well as technology trends and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving the user experience.

At the same time, the Eastern European Gaming Summit (EEGS) was also held, bringing together experts and professionals from the offline and online sectors, regulatory authorities and experts to exchange information, experience and ideas. EEGS provides information and analysis on the latest technological and regulatory developments in the gambling industry not just in Europe but around the world.

At an official ceremony hosted by the Black&White Club, part of the Palms Royale Sofia complex, the annual BEGE Awards for gaming and entertainment were presented in the presence of senior executives from the industry’s leading companies. Companies, organizations and individuals who have contributed the most to the positive development of the gambling industry in the past year have been awarded in 22 categories.

“In recent years, there has been a trend for Bulgaria to become a technology hub for foreign companies. This greatly contributes to the development of the national economy in many different aspects. We believe that in order to become even more attractive in the market, it is vital to create good conditions for companies, as well as to celebrate their successes. So, dear winners, let us celebrate your success together,” said Angel Iribozov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Gambling Industry Association and initiator of the BEGE exhibition.
